I knew Beth for 23 years and have so many memories of her it would be hard to narrow it down to just a few. She was smart, funny, resilient, and brave. I mostly remember us spending time visiting her father and comforting him. She cared deeply about her brother and admired his devotion to Israel. She oftentimes tried to educate me in Judaism and earnestly wanted me to be a BatMitzvah. Beth struggled with physical pain yet pushed herself to keep working even as it became increasingly difficult for an older disabled person to compete in the job market. Her most ardent wish is for Placement services for older disabled workers. Placement services are non-existent, causing disabled workers to feel deeply ashamed when they are unable to compete for jobs younger workers easily get. She often said to me, “all I want is a stinking part time office job.” But the greatest wish of her heart was for her brother Brian to be proud of her because she loved him and her boyfriend Ed the most. I really miss her and especially her great sense of humor.
