OBITUARY
Roger B. Perry, age 83, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, after a brief illness.
Roger was born on April 17, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up with his twin sister Susan. He earned his undergraduate degree from New York University before attending the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine (Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences), where he graduated in 1968.
Following medical school, Roger served in the United States Army Medical Corps, where he held the position of Chief of Outpatient Clinics. He then completed his internship and residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago.
Roger devoted more than two decades to Michael Reese Hospital as a radiologist, specializing in gastrointestinal and breast imaging. After the hospital's closure, he continued his medical career at Mercy Hospital and at the University of Illinois Chicago Hospital. Throughout his career, he found great fulfillment in teaching and mentoring residents, sharing both his knowledge and passion for medicine.
A respected leader in his field, Roger was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology and a member of the Radiological Society of North America and the Chicago Radiological Society. His dedication to patient care, medical education, and the practice of radiology left a lasting impact on colleagues, students, and the many patients he served.
In his free time Roger loved to read mystery novels, watch British crime shows, eat at The Bagel, spend time with his dogs, play golf and ski, and make annual trips to Mexico. He had a ‘dad’ sense of humor.
Beloved husband of Bonnie (Vaughn). Loving father of Dr. L. Amanda (Mark Paris) Perry and Russell (Danielle) Perry. Twin brother to Susan (Eli) Zacharia. Survived by nieces Marie, Laurie, and nephew Michael. Devoted Cubs fan, former Brooklyn Dodgers fan. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff who provided loving care to Roger both at Saint Joseph Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at Graceland Cemetery on Thursday, June 4, at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Anti-Cruelty Society, 157W West Grand Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60654, anticruelty.org or The American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284-0692, www.heart.org/en or The Radiological Society of North America, 820 Jorie Boulevard, Suite 200, Oak Brook, Illinois 60523, www.rsna.org.
