OBITUARY

Laurel "Grandmama" Blau, nee Witz, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 in Chicago. Born on December 28, 1931, Laurel led a life marked by a vibrant zest for life, social engagement, and a deep love for her family.

Laurel graduated from Sullivan High School and ventured into the world of fashion, making her mark as a fashion model.

Her career was not just her profession but a passion that showcased her elegance and charm, traits that defined her persona.

Beyond her professional achievements, Laurel was known for her active lifestyle and her love for fine dining, shopping, and spending quality time with friends and family. She was a social butterfly, cherished by all for her lively spirit and the warmth she brought to every gathering.

She leaves behind a loving family: sons Gary Blau and Joel (Susie) Blau; daughter-in-law Joyce Mazzoni Blau; grandchildren Jason (Diana) Blau, Jamie (Brad) Lash, Ally (Andrew) Lussier, and David (Kelli) Blau; and great-grandchildren Noam and Eli Blau, Cameron and Cooper Lash, Owen and Nathan Lussier, Bayli and Carter Blau. Laurel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sam J. Blau; son Neal Blau; parents Morton and Gertrude Witz, and her brother David Witz.

The family is very grateful for her loving care team. With their help, she was able to continue her very active life style which made her so happy.

In lieu of funeral services, and to honor Laurel’s generous spirit, the family requests that contributions be made to a charity of one's choice.

Laurel will be remembered for her radiant personality and her enduring love and dedication to her family. Her legacy of joy and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew her.

I have so many wonderful memories of Laurel. During our Jr High and High school years, I spent countless hours at the Blau’s apartment. She was a gracious, supportive, fun and loving. May her memory be for a beautiful blessing.
