Jeff was a great friend to many of us in the birding community. He was generous with his knowledge and patient with us as we absorbed that knowledge. A day birding with Jeffrey was a good birding day, regardless of how many birds we saw. I will miss him. He was a man with a big heart.

I had the pleasure and honor of knowing Jeff and spending time counting with him for the Chicago Urban Christmas Count along with Karen Lund the last few years . He suffered with painful health issues but was unwavering in his positive attitude and desire of getting outside to enjoy the birds. I loved hearing about his amazing history of birding the Chicago area and what it must have been like then. I will especially think of Jeff during Christmas Count season and whenever I see a Merlin.

Besides his love for birds, Jeff had an awesome collection of minor league baseball gear, especially hats. He told me once, just how many he had and I was pretty certain it was over a 100! (Who knew there were that many minor league teams!). To this day, Jeff is the ONLY person I've met that recognized my Missoula Osprey hat, that I still wear out birding. I love Osprey. My fantasy baseball and football teams are the O'Fallon Osprey, so I purchased the hat. I've had it for years and will NEVER forget running into Jeff and having him exclaiming "Awesome! Missoula Osprey!". Rest in peace, Jeff. You will be missed.
