OBITUARY

Mary Nix, (nee Dunne). Beloved wife of the late John P. Nix (2015). Loving mother of Mary D. Nix, Thomas Nix (Jennifer), Deirdre Nix (Benny Delgado), and the late Kathy Nix (1999). Devoted grandmother to Conrad Nelson and the late Deirdre Nelson (2013). Fond sister-in-law to James and Teresa Nix, and many others. Dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. Mary was born in Cloonfinish, County Mayo, Ireland to parents William and Bridget Dunne on November 11, 1928. She died peacefully in her home on November 15, 2025. Mary did her nurse’s training in Mayo, Ireland and immigrated to Chicago in the late 1950s. She held nursing positions at Loretto Hospital, Whitehall Nursing Home, and several private duty nursing positions, and was a member of the Deerfield Nurse’s Association. Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Martin Dunne (Sheila), Bridget Dunne, Helen (Nell) Fleming (William), Katherine Gallagher, and William (Billy) Dunne. Auntie Mary was a truly lovely person. She wanted everyone to be happy and contented. She handled all of life’s challenges and still managed to be serene and loving. We will all miss her, especially MaryD, Deirdre, Tommy, Tess and Jim. May she rest in peace with all her siblings that she missed.

We send sincere sympathy to Mary, Tommy and Deirdre on the passing of our lovely Auntie Mary.
We were lucky enough to have visited her in her home during our holiday in the USA in 2018. She was so positive and cheery, despite her mobility issues at that time. Her interest in Ireland and all her Irish relatives was remarkable.
While Auntie Mary didn't visit Ireland in later years, regular phone calls between her and her sister Nell meant she kept up to date on the latest news from home.
