OBITUARY

Allene “Eenie” Frost, nee Schero, age 99

Beloved wife of the late Jack P. Frost for 54 years. Loving mother of Bonnie (the late David) Spangler, Ira (Elise) Frost and Skip and Alene Frost. Proud grandmother of Ben (Aaron Goynshor) Spangler, Jamie (Alex Fried) Spangler, Joe Spangler, Marc (Alice da Cunha) Frost, Joshua (Jessica) Frost, Rachel (Miguel Santana) Frost, Rebecca Frost and Brian (Mandy) Frost. Cherished great grandmother of Benjamin, Alexander, Arlo, Vera, Cooper, Franklin, Henry and Daniel. Allene was the daughter of Mabelle Shlensky Schero and William Schero.

Eenie was born on February 21, 1926 in Chicago in the Lakeview area. She attended Lake View High School and graduated from the University of Michigan. While there, she volunteered for many organizations including The Red Cross and the Interfaith Council. After graduation, she taught nursery school at Anshe Emet Day School.
Eenie and Jack were introduced on a blind date and it was an instant love affair. They wed in 1948 and were married for 54 years. They celebrated adult b’nai mitzvot at North Suburban Synagogue Beth El after 51 years. Eenie was a lifelong leader in several Jewish organizations. She became the Lake County Regional President of ORT. In addition, she edited the famous Portal to Good Cooking Cook Books.
Education and family were centerpieces of her life. She took great pride in being a lifelong learner and taking adult education classes for over 50 years. An avid reader, you could often find her at the HP Library. She enjoyed her mahjong friends, bridge group, and card games.
Her leadership continued as President of the North Suburban Synagogue Beth El Sisterhood and she spearheaded the Tradition in the Kitchen North Suburban Synagogue Beth El cookbook project. She was best known for her TV celebrity on the WJUF cable network TV show Eenie’s Kitchen, which featured kosher cooking, teaching the holidays, and hosting guests on the show.
She was an excellent tennis player and organized the “Friendly Fridays”, a group that played together and socialized for many years. In addition to being an adamant sports participant, she was a diehard Cub fan.
Eenie was active in the PTA, received the Key to the City of Highland Park, appeared on the cover the Highland Park News, The Sentinel and other publications honoring her service to their communities.
As an only child, she got great pleasure being surrounded by her family and hosting holidays and events.
The family is grateful for the loving care she received from Anna, Sylvia, Laura, Ruthslana Norma and Marcia.

Due to the Shavuot holiday, there will be a private interment.
Memorial service Sunday 1 pm at North Suburban Synagogue Beth El, 1175 Sheridan Rd, Highland Park, IL 60035. Shiva will immediately follow at the synagogue and end at 4:30 pm. Eenie was always a light to us, whether at Beth El or watching "Eenie's Kitchen" on WJUF back in the day. She was always there with a smile. A true "Ashesh Chaiyl" and "Gutenah Neshamah." Condolences from our family to yours and Mazel Tov on a life well lived.

Mom was clearly a glowing light in a world today filled with ambiguity to say the least. With more people like her, the world can become a better place. I am so proud to be her son and had the pleasure of speaking with her every single day for the last several days. I am hopeful that by following in her example, we can have a better world. Love, Ira

Your Mother and Grandmother was a “pioneer”,
from ORT, to NSSBETHEL, to her television show and her treasured cookbook, Tradition in the Kitchen. It was my cooking bible for many years. I knew if it was a recipe by Eenie, I was never disappointed.

I know you will miss her, but I am sure you have so many fond memories of spending time with your Mom and Grandmother that you will cherish.

Warmly,
Shelley Kreiter
