Loving daughter of Doris and the late Bernard Lichterman. Cherished sister of Ronald (Gail Tepper) Lichterman; devoted aunt of David and Samantha Lichterman. Maxine spent her entire teaching career at Morton West High School in Berwyn in the Theater, English and Library departments, and was responsible for many theatrical productions. Maxine was not only passionate about teaching; she was also an avid traveler and saw the world. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with friends and family and followed her other passion for the theater by volunteering with The Saints, a group that supports arts organizations throughout the Chicago area. I have known Maxine for my whole life. My mom (Judi Ginsberg) and Maxine knew each other since they were both in kindergarten. She had been part of our family all these years. My mom passed away 9 years ago. Maxine remained close to me, my wife and my two children. I would talk to Maxine every 3-4 weeks and we would get together for dinner or take her to a play with us downtown. She was so much more then a friend. She was one of the kindest souls that anyone could have in their life. Although she was not connected to us by blood, I feel such a hole in my heart after I heard of her passing. I am so happy that I got to talk with her this past Saturday. My deepest condolences to her family.

I was one of the many students whose lives were changed by having know Maxine and studied under her. She was the faculty advisor for Thespian Society. I was glad to exchange emails with her a few years ago. She will be missed, but leaves a powerful legacy of memories for thousands whose lives she touched. My condolences to her family.

I am happy to have known Maxine. She was so kind to me when I had hip replacement and I was glad I could take her to the hospital for her recent operation. She was a generous, giving person and will be missed for sure.

Maxine was my dear friend and drama teacher at Morton West HS in the early 70's. I kept in touch with her on and off over the years, but not as much as I wish I had. She always had a genuine smile on her face, and was so passionate about the theatre and all of the arts. She praised me constantly for following my dreams. She was a great listener and a great storyteller. She challenged me to do things that I may never have done on my own, and I will always be grateful to her for that. I know she dealt with a great deal of physical pain, and I am so happy she will no longer be suffering, but I will truly miss her. May she rest in blissful peace.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of one of my favorite teachers at Morton West High School. She made learning not only exciting for her students but in addition spent countless hours after school hours directing us in productions. She inspired me to do the same with my own students years after I had graduated from Morton West. I am certain there is a plan for her in her near future. Now she will commune with the angels.

How many people in this world can claim that their high school English teacher became their lifelong friend? I graduated from Morton West in 1965, and from that day forward I never lost touch with Max. She watched me get married raise my kids and visited us frequently in California during her traveling days. Even though I was her student, we really were not that far apart in age, six years to be exact. I still can't figure out how she managed to keep us all in line during our high school days. I love this women and it is with a heavy heart that I write this, as I will miss her terribly. My prayers go out to all who knew her and especially to Ron and his family.

I taught with Maxine in the Morton schools district for many years. A compassionate soul whose love for her students, the arts, and travel can not be denied. Here's to a big "break a leg" in her next journey and production!! xo

Maxine, dear friend, I'm going to miss you. Highschool friends, dozing through Freshman General Science at Senn, 60 years later, still laughing at our teen-age crush on that handsome, dishy Bill Hurley, who was also a very good English teacher. I'm going to miss sharing our zany memories. I'm going to miss a lovely, dear, considerate, compassionate, funny woman always thinking of and doing for others.
Sweet dreams, Cherie

I knew that Maxine had many friends, and it was easy to understand why. She was always so supportive and caring toward everyone she knew. A wonderful teacher, a dear friend and a treasured link to my high school past. I was glad that in recent times she had been getting out again, on the go with visits, concerts and plays. I spoke to her on Sunday, and as usual, she wanted updates on me, my husband and our circle of Morton friends, wanting to know that we were all doing well. I will miss her tremendously, but I'm so grateful to have had her in my life. Thank you, Maxine, with all my heart.

I first knew Maxine as a student actor at Morton College and, later, as a substitute teacher at Morton East and Morton West. Here's a "Standing O" for you, Max!

I met Auntie Max in 1964 when she came to our Freshman English class to talk about the Theatre Dept. I've acted and crewed for her, been in her English class senior year, substituted for her in the seventies, sublet her condo in the eighties when she was on one of her many summer travel adventures, dined at her table, and yes, she attended my wedding. In all those many years, she was concerned, fun, and interesting...so wonderful and easy to be around! A fine mentor, a fine friend, a fine lady. Thank you, Auntie Max for sharing so many hours with so many.
